A workshop to experience the Floating University: a self organised space and group, where practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds meet to collaborate, co-create and imaginatively work towards futures. On the site of the Floating University, a diverse range of animals, plants and algae have taken root and given birth to a unique landscape: a man-made environment reclaimed by nature where polluted water coexists with the relatively new presence of the university, forming a natureculture (Haraway) or a third landscape (Clemènt). The rainwater collection basin had been closed off to the public for over 80 years and when the site was opened up in 2018 as the Floating University by architecture group raumlabor, it was an explicit decision to re-activate the water infrastructure as a cultural and socio-political space. It is in solidarity with the history of the site and within the lineage of alternative narratives for urban development that the Floating University situates its mission: to open, soften, maintain, and take care of this unique public urban infrastructure, its human culture and its multispecies overlayers while bringing non-disciplinary, radical, and collaborative programs to the public. In other words, it is a place to learn to engage, to embrace the complexity and navigate the entanglements of the world, to imagine and create different forms of living.

About Us: Floating University Berlin investigates alternative, biodiverse forms of co-habitation in a partially contaminated rainwater basin, part of the former Tempelhof airport. Floating e.V. is organized in working groups that work on specific tasks and topics driven by interest and desires – or what we also like to call Fields of Knowledge and Action: from maintaining and developing the site to gardening, cultivating collaborations and taking care of neighborhood connections.

Info: People should bring rubber boots!! - we have on site some.. but mybe nicer if they bring their own.
Please bring your lunch for an individual picnic. We offer only drinks at the Floating Bar.
